The Story Behind the "Star Spangled Banner" our National Anthem
Dudley Rutherford, senior pastor of Shepherd of the Hills Church in Porter Ranch, California, explains the story behind the "Star Spangled Banner" - our National Anthem.
This is a lovely but ridiculous story. Inventing history out of whole cloth does no one a service, except those who would label Christian Ministers liars. Any one with even a cursory knowledge of history knows that four people died during this bombardment. Although the British did fire on Fort McHenry for 25 hours most of their munitions did not even reach land, due to the sinking of merchant ships that blockaded the harbor. The flag that is the star spangled banner of the song was not raised until morning when the battle was over and the British retreated.
